Supply Chains in Natural Resources
We discuss in this presentation how production chains are defined in forest , mining and salmon industries. These industries in general do not coordinate well their production chains, leading to inefficiencies. For each specific industry we show:
a) What the inefficiencies are due to poor coordination; b) How the different stages interact, and what should be coordinated; c) Models that integrate the production chain; d) The advantages that could be obtained through coordinating the different stages; e) The computational complexity in solving these problems, the difficulties in obtaining data, and the main uncertainties involved.
